NetEnt’s roots trace back all the way to 1963 – an era of traditional casinos. They were then known as Cherry, one of Scandinavia’s leading off-line casino operators. Pontus Lindwall, son of original founder Bill Lindwall, founded Net Entertainment in 1996 when he realized that iGaming was the way of the future, and managed to convince one of the largest investment companies listed in Europe to invest with him. Net Entertainment played a pioneering role in the mid-nineties when online gaming broke the surface and the first online casino was launched in 2000. The name was later changed to NetEnt in 2015.
By 2007, NetEnt was licensed by the Maltese Gaming Authority (MGA), publicly listed on Nasdaq and actively expanding into other countries.
Today, NetEnt has developed over 200 top-quality casino games, including their trademark Touch® mobile offering which was launched in 2016. They’ve gone from humble beginnings of 2- to 3500 servers and employs 900 staff while servicing around 175 casino operators with an entire suit or selected popular NetEnt games.
