Edgewater Casino In Vancouver Downtown Will Shut Down This Month
At Vancouver Downtown region, the Edgewater Casino will cease operation by the end of September 2017. It will take place on September 29, on the same day Parq Vancouver casino hotel resort is set to open. Paragon Gaming had opened the casino in 2005 within Enterprise Hall of Plaza of Nations. The Enterprise Hall had been used for meetings, concerts and other events. The staffs will shift to new complex of the company once the Edgewater Casino is shut down.
Parq Vancouver’s casino space is approx 72,000-sq-ft about double the size of Enterprise Hall of Edgewater Casino. The doubled floor area may hint at the possibility of more games, but the existing license is for 600 slot machines and about 75 table games. This is what City of Vancouver permits to Parq Vancouver.
There are 11 exclusive salons and a poker room in the new space. However, expansion of game offerings cannot be ruled out in the future. Parq Vancouver is not only a casino. The 700,000-sq-ft, $700-million complex is also a resort which has 517 hotel rooms, eight lounges and restaurants, a 30000-sq-ft rooftop outdoor public space and 62,000-sq-ft convention and meeting space.
The Plaza of Nations was made as BC Pavilion for accommodating Expo ’86 World’s Fair. It has 4 structures- West Building, Enterprise Hall, covered outdoor plaza and East Building. The outdoor plaza’s glass roof and West Building was pulled down in 2007. The glass roof was demolished on accusations of being unsafe. It is to be seen for what purpose Enterprise Hall is used in the future. A mixed-use redevelopment project will lead to the demolition of Plaza of Nations.
The proposed redevelopment work includes building thousands of residential units, developing restaurants, bars. A Vancouver Canucks ice rink will also be set up which will also be used as the community public ice rink.
The Parq Vancouver has finally opened its' doors in downtown Vancouver.
