Microgaming started out in 1994 as an online casino, the first of its kind according to them, but it hasn’t been absolutely proven. It certainly was, however, the very beginning stages of online casino gaming as we know it today. Not long after, the company decided they would have more success as a developer of casino games and licensing them to other online casinos.
In 1996, their first licensee went live on the net and they were out of the gate, signing many more over the following years and building a successful and solid reputation as a preferred software provider.
In 1997, Microgaming became a founding member of the Interactive Gaming Council (IGC), which still exists today with the purpose of ensuring fair and responsible gambling practices in the industry. In later years, they also became a founding member of e-Commerce and Online Gaming Regulation and Assurance (eCOGRA), an internationally recognized organization that audits online casino operators and keeps them in check.
In 1998, Microgaming launched their first of many networked progressive jackpot slot games, Cash Splash. During this time, the company also released the software enabling players to choose between instant play or download.
In 2001, Microgaming landed its first of many awards for best software supplier by Casino Player magazine. By then they had released casino software in multiple languages and developed software that allowed players to download casino games while playing other games.
More awards followed in 2002, in particular, one for their Major Millions slot game that set a world record for the largest online jackpot to be paid out, at €1.5 million.
2003 brought yet more awards, and also marked the introduction of Microgaming’s poker software, plus other software improvements and additions of advanced features.
Microgaming continued to consistently release top-quality slot games with various features that proved to be a big hit with online casino players. They also began to add live dealer and multi-hand games to their portfolio.
2008 saw the release of their first 100 payline slot, pushing their suite of games to well over 400
2011 - Microgaming offered cutting-edge mobile casino software, along with the first true three-dimensional online slot game. A year later they launched a new type of speed poker, Blaze Poker, and also introduced a new rake allocation method on their poker network
Today, Microgaming continues to bag impressive awards, innovate and deliver world-class products at a consistent pace, and manage to leave their ever-increasing competitors in the dust.
