This is an altogether different Game from the original The Great Albini slot free spins and expanding multipliers give way to a Link & Win-style bonus round and cash-filled gems.

Collect Feature

On random spins, the Money Gem symbols would appear on the first four reels, bearing prize values. The Blue, Violet, and Red gems help prizes worth 1x-9x, 10x-20 x, and 25x-50x my bet, respectively. These values would only pay out when the Collect symbol appeared on the fifth reel, sometimes bringing with it a 2x-5x multiplier for an extra winnings boost.

Bonus Round

When I got 3 scatters to appear on the middle three reels, The Bonus Round launched, where the grid was cleared of all symbols and only Money Gems, Albini Multiplier symbols, or Lily Extra Spins symbols could land.  When any of these symbols appeared they would reset the spins count to 3 and any Money Gems that appeared would remain locked in place on the reels for as long as the feature lasted. The round ended when I ran out of spins or when I managed to fill all the reel positions with Money Gems.

The feature also includes a win multiplier that is boosted by the appearance of the Albini Multiplier symbol that adds a 1x to 5x multiplier to the existing value. When the Lily Extra Spins symbol landed, my spin was increased by +1, prolonging the feature’s duration.

Booster ante bet

This handy feature increased my bet by 50% as a trade-off for more Money Gem and Collect symbols during the base game and more Albini Multipliers and Lily Extra Spins symbols during the bonus round.

The Great Albini 2 doesn’t quite have the magic of its forbearer but puts on a decent show with thrilling gameplay moments. I found the developer’s choice here to abandon the original The Great Albini’s screen-filling graphics for a contained reel-set in mobile portrait mode puzzling. It feels to me that they opted to fix something that wasn’t broken and in doing so, diminished the game’s visual impact.

The confounding presentation choices aside, I found the game to be highly enjoyable with an even spread of action across the base and bonus games thanks to the distribution of Bonus features. The top prize of $240 000 won’t raise any eyebrows, but at least it’s close to the average of what Microgaming releases have offered of late. This is more a game of frequent, middling winds, rather than spectacular prizes and it pulls this off well. Hopefully, Foxium will pull out all the stops if Albini returns for a third appearance.
