According to statistics released in the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) State of the States 2019: The AGA Survey of the Commercial Casino Industry, there has been a record $41.7 billion in revenue earnings in the commercial casino industry in 2018, 3.5% higher than the preceding year.

The main conclusion from the State of the States 2019 report confirms:

  • $9.7 billion was generated through gaming taxes for local and state governments, which doesn’t include the billions in income, miscellaneous taxes for the benefit of communities and sales.
  • Most of the 24 states housing commercial casinos declared a huge revenue in their annual gaming with almost every state witnessing gains in the year 2018, adding to the local economic strength throughout the country.
  • The casino industry with around 465 casinos reported its fourth successive revenue increase overtaking the national economic rate of growth for 2018.

According to Bill Miller, President and CEO of the American Gaming Association, “the commercial casino world has over and over again established its position as an economic giant in the U.S. With the growth of legal betting on sports all over the country, more and more communities are enjoying the economic and social benefits of gaming.”

Also the Supreme Court’s May 2018 judgment to upend PASPA (Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act) led to the swift expansion of legitimate sports gambling which in turn played a major role in the industry’s best ever year. 2018 saw the gaming revenue shoot up to a massive $430.2 million, a phenomenal rise from 2017’s $261.3 million.

As more and more states regulate and legalize sports betting, AGA hopes the growth will not look back.

Miller adds: “Due to the development in the commercial gaming arena, the industry is able to offer job opportunities to millions of Americans, continue their investments in local communities and boost collaborations with NGOs and small time businesses.

The commercial casino industry’s financial accomplishment, which covers the scrutinized data of each of the twenty four states enjoying commercial gaming permits, is featured in AGA’s annual State of the States report. With the help of Gambling Compliance, the report also gives a comprehensive inventory on the quantity of casinos, types of legal gaming, gist of major discussions on gaming policies and takes a quick look at the challenges as well as opportunities faced by the industry.
