Gold Collector: Diamond Edition Online Slot by Microgaming and All41 Studios takes you back beneath the earth’s surface to join a kooky old miner in the search for precious ore and gems. This time around, the stakes are higher, the features dig deeper and special diamonds lead the way to an explosive jackpot prize. Blast away with dynamite to reveal lucrative symbols and win with the bonus features that include free spins and wilds.
As far as the features go, this slot offers a significantly better experience than its predecessor.
When 3 scatters appeared on the reels, the bonus game kicked off, awarding me 10 free spins and covering all the reel positions in a layer of rock. When dynamite barrel symbols landed, they exploded, removing the rock and revealing either diamond or coin symbols with attached prize values. Uncovering a diamond generated an extra spin and if a dynamite barrel landed on an already cleared position it randomly caused a plunger to appear that would detonate to blast away the rock from 2 to 4 surrounding positions. Jackpot prizes were paid out per reel that had all the rock cleared from it. The Mini, Minor, Maxi Major, and Grand jackpots were attached to reels 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5, and were worth 10x, 20x, 50x, 100x, or 1000x my stake, respectively.
If 3 diamond or coin symbols landed on the same spin in the base game, the Link&Win feature would launch, awarding 3 respins, clearing the grid, and allowing only blanks, or prize-bearing coins and diamonds to land. If a diamond or coin symbol landed, it was locked in place for the duration of the feature and the respins were reset to 3. Running out of respins or filling all the positions with symbols meant the end of the feature and the accumulated values of the symbols in view were added to the bankroll. If, however, one diamond appeared on each reel, the Diamond jackpot worth 5000x the stake was paid out. Landing 5 diamond symbols during the base game also awarded the diamond jackpot.
Gold Collector: Diamond Edition delivers an improved experience that redeems many of its predecessor’s errors. Where Gold Collector stumbles, this title soars. The high volatility gameplay and increased maximum potential of $260 000 make for a far more appealing concept while the free spins mode gained a fun enhancement that extends the theme even further into the gameplay.
With all these improvements, Gold Collector is absolutely worth a go, I still wasn’t impressed with its graphics that haven’t changed, but it’s a shining example of how a few changes can take a title from mundane to pretty good.
