Let NetEnt transport you to the Far East in the Chinese-inspired Gold Money Frog online slot. The backdrop of a lush garden gives context to the pagoda-shaped frame that houses the reels. The reels themselves are plain coloured, although the symbols are all brightly rendered in typical NetEnt style. The music is typical of Asian themed slots and is pleasant enough not to be intrusive.   The slot’s gameplay offering is reasonably simple. Features include wilds, free spins and a bonus wheel game mode.

Game Symbols

  • Brightly coloured, gold-edged J, Q, K and A Symbols make up the lower value symbols.
  • Higher value symbols are represented by kites, wooden bridges, a gold ornament and the gold money frog.
  • The Wild symbol is the word ‘wild’ emblazoned in gold across a red background and replaces any standard symbol to create winning combinations.
  • The bonus symbol is a gold wheel with the word ‘bonus’ placed across its surface in shocking pink.
  • The scatter is a trio of Chinese lanterns and triggers the game’s free spins mode.

Bonus Features

Bonus Wheel

Landing 3 or more bonus symbols triggers the bonus wheel mode where you spin a wheel divided into 12 segments for the chance to win one of a selection of prizes. There are 3 jackpots listed at the top of the game board at all times. They are the Super, Major and Minor. Once you have stopped the wheel from spinning, its pointer will land on a prize, which would ideally be the maximum progressive super jackpot.

Free Spins

Landing 3, 4 or 5 scatters on the reels sets off the free spins’ mode, giving you 10, 20 or 30 free spins, respectively. Any winnings generated while free spins are active will attract a 3x multiplier.

Our Verdict

Gold money frog is a reinvention of a slot that NetEnt created over a decade ago. Unfortunately, instead of feeling refreshed, this title feels dated, let down by its low RTP and comparatively small jackpot.  The slot also feels visually basic, with not much in the way of delightful animations or interesting transitions to look at.  NetEnt may have been hoping to trade on nostalgia value, but this might be a slot that you may eventually want to forget.
