Google Play

Google has made an announcement sure to please mobile gambling enthusiasts around the world. The digital mega-corporation will allow gambling apps to be featured on Google Play in a list of new countries. The new development which will be implemented from 1 March 2021 includes the US.

The update includes real-money gambling and daily fantasy sports apps. This extends to online casinos, lotteries, and sports betting. This is big news for developers with gambling-related apps as they will now have a much larger global audience to market to in the Play Store.

A time of change

In the past few years, Google has permitted online gambling operators in the UK, Ireland, France, and Brazil, to place their apps in the Play Store. Google’s new announcement includes Australia, Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Romania, Spain, Sweden, and the United States.

The online sports betting and gaming industry has grown exponentially in the United States, and operators now have a lucrative market to tap with Android-powered apps.

Clearing hurdles

Google’s new measure removes the previous inconvenience of players having to download Android online gambling apps directly from operators’ websites and perform manual updates. These steps would often necessitate bypassing security settings on their phones. Operators will also benefit as they will be able to target their marketing more efficiently.

The company has not yet specified any specific rules around app design and UX, similar to those imposed by Apple. App owners will have to develop their apps with visual impact and native functionality in mind to ensure the longevity of their products.Mobile gambling
