There are a number of top bets made on online roulette games, such as odd/even or red/black. You can also bet on specific groups of numbers, or, if you feel lucky, on one particular number. Similar to sports betting, the lower your chances, the more money you can win.
In general, we can split online roulette bets into two categories - inside and outside. Here is how they differ:
Inside Bets
These types of bets mean your chip is placed inside the table's betting area. Inside bets also have the lowest odds with the biggest payouts (this can be up to 35:1). However, new players to an online roulette game often avoid these types of bets because they are tough to predict.
Single or straight bet: This is a bet placed on a single number. It has a mere 2.7% odds of winning but has the largest payout of any bet at 35:1.
Split bet: This is a bet across two adjacent numbers by placing the chip on the middle line. It has odds of 5.4% and a payout of 17:1.
Street bet: This is a bet on any three numbers in a horizontal line. It has odds of 8.11% and will pay out at 11:1.
Corner bet: By this bet, we understand placing your chip in the center of a square to bet on four numbers at once. It has odds of 10.81% and a payout of 8:1.
Six Line bet: This is a bet on any six numbers from an adjoining row. It has odds of 16.22% and wins pay 5:1.
Triple bet: This is a bet across three numbers, including the zero. Its odds are 8.11% and will pay out at 11:1.
First four bet: It means betting on the first four numbers of the line and has odds of 10.81% and pays out at 8:1.
Outside Bets
Outside bets are found around the edge of the betting area. They are the most common among inexperienced players, new to real money games. That is because the bets here have very high odds of winning. However, with these high odds come low payouts of around 1:1 or 2:1. As a result, you will have to consider the different options and your goal when placing your bet to get better odds.
High/low: This means a bet on a group of roulette numbers. Low = 1 to 18, high = 19 to 36. The odds of winning this are 48.65%, and it has a payout of 1:1.
Color bet: This is a bet on either black or red to win even money. It also has odds of 48.65% and will pay out at 1:1.
Even/odds bet: By this, we understand betting on the odd or even numbers on the table. It is also known as an even money bet and, like other options listed above, has odds of 48.65% and a 1:1 payout.
Column bet: This is a bet placed on a column of 12 numbers in a vertical line as indicated on the betting table. It has odds of 32.43%, and a win pays 2:1.
Dozen bet: This is a bet across groups of 12 numbers. These are outlined in squares on the roulette betting table and are 1-12, 13-24, and 25-36. Odds are 32.43%, with a payout of 2:1.
Other Bets
Although the inside and outside bets are the most common ones, there are many other bets depending on the online roulette game you have chosen to play. All other variations - American roulette, European roulette, French roulette - have several alternative bets you can place (we will cover those in the roulette variations section).
It should also be noted here that the odds and payouts for live roulette don't entirely add up. This is because of the house edge.
In roulette, the house always has the edge because of the zero that is also on the wheel. Of course, it is possible for you to bet on the zero as well, but this isn't such a common bet, nor is it one we recommend.
